DVP033 Exodus 19:11-12 (February 2)

11 and be ready for the third day. For on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
12 And you shall set limits for the people all around, saying, 'Take care not to go up into the mountain or touch the edge of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall be put to death.

Still in the desert, also known as the wilderness, Israel are now at the foot of Mount Sinai. God intends to appear here, and this is a big deal... A very big deal.

Reading this narrative as a mere story, and numb to true awesomeness from watching so many modern action movies, we might not grasp just how big of a deal this event really is. Not necessarily visually awesome, but the Creator of the universe himself is about to come down from heaven to meet with his chosen people and communicate some very important revelation.

Words from God should stop us in our tracks when we realise their value!

A sign of this value is the seemingly harsh penalty of death for anyone who violates the holy space which has been set apart for God's appearance. Heavy judgements from God usually speak to us of the importance of obedience in these areas, and the importance is a clue to the nature and value of God himself.
